Communiqué on the Passing Away of President Pierre Nkurunziza

 
 
 

The Embassy of the Republic of Burundi in Washington, D.C, presents its compliments to the United States Department of State, all Diplomatic Missions accredited to the United States of America and International Organizations and has the profound regret to inform the latter that His Excellency, Honorable Pierre Nkurunziza, President of the Republic of Burundi, passed away on June 8, 2020 at the Karuzi Hospital, where he had been admitted two days before.


President Nkurunziza was born in 1964 and stayed on power from 2005 to 2020. In his memory, the Government of Burundi declared seven days of national mourning.
